THREE young men believed to have been shot in Camden Town were arrested after becoming “aggressive” with hospital staff, police said.
Armed officers raced to Camden Road station at around midnight after receiving several emergency calls reporting a shooting last Friday. They found no victims at the scene, but around 15 minutes later received a call from staff at University College London Hospital in Euston Road after “two males self-presented with gunshot wounds and were being aggressive,” they said.
Both were arrested at the hospital and a third man was arrested in Camden Town “after a short foot chase by officers,” police said.
One man, who witnessed the immediate aftermath, said: “I saw one armed response vehicle and then another one went screaming passed at 100 mile an hour and I knew something was up. There were officers everywhere with automatic weapons.”
It is believed the shooting was the result of a confrontation between rival gangs and began in Agar Grove. Detectives are still trying to piece together what happened and it is understood they have yet to establish exactly where the three men were shot, with 999 calls reporting a “male with a gunshot wound” in Camden Road.
A 16-year-old boy initially refused treatment for his bullet wounds, police said, and was arrested for assaulting a police officer “following an incident at the hospital”. A 21-year-old man, also suffering from gunshot wounds, refused treatment and attempted to leave hospital when police were called. A 17-year-old man was arrested near Camden Road and was taken to a hospital where he also refused treatment, police said.
All three have also been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
